Demand forecasting accuracy is necessary but not sufficient. Supply chain planning must also model supply-side variability, lead time uncertainty, supplier capacity constraints, and the cost trade-offs between holding inventory and risking stockouts. A perfect demand forecast applied to an inflexible supply model still produces service failures when suppliers perform below expectation.
