Anaplan
The enterprise modelling engine behind budgets, demand forecasts and supply plans that need to update in real time across departments.
What it is
About Anaplan
Anaplan is a cloud platform for building interconnected planning models — financial budgets, sales quotas, demand forecasts, workforce plans — so that a change in one model (e.g. a sales forecast) flows through to dependent models (e.g. supply chain or cash flow) instantly. It replaces siloed, error-prone spreadsheet chains with a single calculation engine (Hyperblock) that many users can model against simultaneously. It's common in large enterprises doing integrated business planning (IBP and S&OP).
What you can do with it
Capabilities
Build multidimensional planning models linking finance, sales, supply chain and HR data
Run driver-based forecasts and rolling budgets that update in real time
Model what-if scenarios across an entire connected planning ecosystem
Give planners self-service dashboards without touching the underlying model logic
Integrate with ERP and CRM systems (SAP, Salesforce, Workday) for live data feeds
How to learn it
Learning Resources
Anaplan Academy (official free and paid certification courses)
Anaplan Community forums and model-building exercises
Becoming an Anaplan Certified Model Builder (L1 and L2 certifications)
Shadowing an experienced model builder — most learning happens on real client models
Pro Tip
Learn to think in Anaplan's list, hierarchy and module structure before building anything — most beginner mistakes come from replicating spreadsheet habits (flat tables) instead of designing proper dimensional lists.
