TEDDS

Automates structural calculations while producing fully documented, checkable output

What it is

About TEDDS

TEDDS (from Tekla/Trimble) automates common structural engineering calculations — beams, columns, foundations, connections — against design codes such as Eurocodes or British Standards, and produces transparent, editable calculation reports that can be checked and submitted as part of a design package. It saves engineers from repetitive manual hand-calculations while keeping the working fully auditable, unlike a black-box tool.

What you can do with it

Capabilities

1

Automate structural calculations for beams, columns, and foundations

2

Check designs against Eurocodes or British Standards

3

Generate clear, auditable calculation reports for design packages

4

Customise or write new calculation templates

5

Integrate outputs into wider structural design documentation

How to learn it

Learning Resources

Tekla/Trimble's official TEDDS documentation and training

Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) resources on structural software

University structural engineering courses that include TEDDS training

Practise by running a simple beam design calculation and checking it by hand

Pro Tip

Always sanity-check a TEDDS output against a quick hand calculation on your first few uses — it builds the judgement needed to spot when an input assumption (not the software) has gone wrong.
