Adobe XD
Adobe's answer to wireframing and prototyping — now legacy, but still found in many teams' toolchains
What it is
About Adobe XD
Adobe XD was Adobe's UI/UX design and prototyping tool for creating wireframes, high-fidelity screens and interactive prototypes. Adobe announced in 2023 that it was ending new feature development and standard licence sales in favour of Figma (which Adobe had attempted to acquire), so XD is now a legacy/maintenance-mode tool — many teams referencing it are working with existing files or migrating to Figma.
What you can do with it
Capabilities
Create low- and high-fidelity wireframes and UI screens
Build interactive, clickable prototypes with transitions between artboards
Use auto-animate to simulate micro-interactions
Share prototypes for stakeholder review and feedback via a link
Reuse Creative Cloud assets (Photoshop/Illustrator files) directly within a design
How to learn it
Learning Resources
Adobe's legacy XD tutorials (still published on Adobe's help site, though not actively updated)
Older YouTube courses (many still valid for legacy XD projects) from channels like DesignCourse
Adobe's official migration guidance for moving XD files to Figma
Practise mainly relevant if maintaining or migrating an existing XD project, given the tool's sunset status
Pro Tip
If your team still has legacy XD files, plan a migration to Figma sooner rather than later — Adobe is no longer developing XD, and Figma has good XD-import tooling that gets easier to use while both ecosystems are still current
