Myths vs Truths
Myth

"Dispensing accuracy is mainly about checking the label against the prescription — if the drug and dose match, the dispensing is correct."

Truth

Label matching catches transcription errors but not clinical ones. The dispensing check also covers whether the prescribed dose is appropriate for the patient's weight and renal function, whether the formulation is suitable for how the patient will actually take it, and whether there are interactions with other dispensed medicines. A label-accurate dispense can still be a clinical error.

Myth

"Robots are replacing pharmacist dispensing."

Truth

Automation handles high-volume straightforward dispensing. The clinical checking, patient counselling, and exception handling still require a qualified pharmacist.

Research & Outlook

Robotic dispensing is handling volume; pharmacists are moving into clinical roles.
