The first year on a new SAP or Oracle SCM implementation, the most valuable skill you can develop is not system operation — it is data quality management. SCM planning systems are only as good as the master data feeding them: item lead times, safety stock parameters, supplier MOQs, and demand history. Incorrect master data produces mathematically correct but operationally wrong supply plans that the business ignores. Before optimising the planning logic, audit and clean the master data. A correct plan on clean data is worth more than a sophisticated algorithm on dirty inputs.
