What it is

About ETCS

The European Train Control System (ETCS) is a standardised cab-based train control system that continuously supervises train speed and movement authority via track-to-train data communication, removing the need for conventional trackside signals at the highest implementation level. Rail signal engineers work with ETCS as part of modernising national rail networks (e.g. UK's Digital Railway programme, HS2, Thameslink) to increase capacity and safety.
