Truth

Headroom requires discipline at every stage — overdriving early in the signal chain saturates subsequent stages regardless of how low the output is set.

Myth

"Gain structure is mainly about preventing feedback — once feedback is controlled, the gain structure is adequate."

Truth

Feedback avoidance is one constraint on gain structure, not its purpose. Gain structure determines signal-to-noise ratio, headroom, and how the system behaves when individual channels are pushed. A system with adequate feedback margin but poor gain structure will exhibit noise floors that compromise intelligibility and clip unpredictably under normal performance conditions.
