Distance and time are two constraints among many. Effective route planning also accounts for vehicle type restrictions, load compatibility, driver hour regulations, customer time windows, real-time traffic conditions, and the cost of failed deliveries. Optimising for time and distance while violating other constraints produces a route that is efficient on paper and undeliverable in practice.
