How to Practise
- 1.Obtain the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety — the baseline qualification recognised by employers across UK industry for H&S roles. The NEBOSH Diploma is required for senior H&S management positions.
- 2.Conduct a workplace risk assessment using the HSE five-step process (identify hazards, decide who might be harmed, evaluate risks and controls, record findings, review and update) for a real workplace environment and document the output in a format suitable for audit.
- 3.Investigate a real or case-study workplace incident using a root cause analysis method (5 Whys, fault tree analysis, RIDDOR classification) and produce a written investigation report with corrective action recommendations.
- 4.Study the core legislation: Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, Working at Height Regulations 2005, Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, and the Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015 — understanding the duty-holder structure and legal requirements of each.
