Myths vs Truths
Myth

"Change management is mainly about stakeholder buy-in — if people understand why the change is happening, they will support it."

Truth

Understanding is necessary but not sufficient for adoption. Stakeholders who genuinely agree with a change in principle can still fail to change behaviour if the new process is harder than the old one, if incentives are misaligned, or if the environment does not support the new behaviour. Change management addresses the full system of adoption, not just the cognitive dimension of understanding and agreeing.

Research & Outlook

As organisations face accelerating technology adoption — from AI tools to hybrid working norms — change management is becoming a permanent capability rather than a project-phase activity. Professionals who can build change-ready cultures, not just manage one-off transitions, will be in growing demand. The discipline is also maturing with more rigorous measurement frameworks linking change investment to business outcomes.
