Structurizr

Model your architecture once, generate every diagram from it.

What it is

About Structurizr

Created by Simon Brown (originator of the C4 model), Structurizr lets architects describe a software system's context, containers, components and code-level structure in a DSL or via its API, then automatically render consistent, linked C4 diagrams. This solves the classic problem of architecture diagrams drifting out of sync with each other and with reality, since every view is generated from one underlying source of truth.

What you can do with it

Capabilities

1

Model system context, container, component and code-level C4 views

2

Author architecture-as-code using the Structurizr DSL

3

Auto-generate consistent, linked diagrams from one architecture model

4

Version architecture models alongside code in Git

5

Publish living architecture documentation for a team

How to learn it

Learning Resources

Practise by modelling an existing system you know well as a C4 diagram set

Pro Tip

Start at Context and Container levels only — most teams over-invest in Component-level diagrams that go stale fast; keep those closer to the code and only formalise them for genuinely complex subsystems.
