Evertz MAGNUM

Broadcast facility control system for routing, automation, and multiviewer management.

What it is

About Evertz MAGNUM

Evertz MAGNUM is a software-defined broadcast control system used in master control rooms, playout facilities, and outside broadcast operations to manage routing switchers, multiviewers, signal processing, and playout automation from a single unified control plane. It abstracts the physical routing matrix — whether SDI or IP — and presents operators and engineers with a logical view of signal paths that can be saved as salvo presets, executed on schedule, or triggered by automation events. In IP broadcast environments, MAGNUM integrates with NMOS (Networked Media Open Specifications) registries to discover and control ST 2110 streams, replacing the physical patch panel with a software-controlled routing layer. For broadcast engineers, MAGNUM proficiency means being able to configure routing rules, build multiviewer layouts, set up automation schedules for scheduled channel changes, and diagnose routing failures by tracing signal paths through the control system rather than the physical infrastructure.

What you can do with it

Capabilities

1

Build and execute routing salvos that switch multiple signal paths simultaneously with a single command.

2

Configure multiviewer layouts showing live signal thumbnails, audio meters, and alarm status for a channel lineup.

3

Set up NMOS device discovery so MAGNUM automatically detects new IP sources and destinations on the network.

4

Create an automation schedule that changes routing configurations at specific times for a planned transmission event.

5

Trace a signal path from source to destination through the MAGNUM logical routing map to diagnose a missing feed.

How to learn it

Learning Resources

Evertz training programmes — vendor-delivered installation and operator training; contact Evertz regional office to arrange

Evertz documentation portal (available to registered users) — system administration guides and API references

SMPTE Learning resources on NMOS (IS-04, IS-05) standards — free at smpte.org; essential for IP routing context

On-the-job: most MAGNUM proficiency is gained during facility commissioning projects under supervision of an Evertz-certified integrator

Pro Tip

Document every salvo with a plain-English description of what it does — MAGNUM salvos accumulate fast in a complex facility, and an undocumented salvo executed by the wrong operator during a live transmission event is one of the most stressful incidents in broadcast.
