Blender

Professional-grade 3D modelling and animation, completely free

What it is

About Blender

Blender covers the full 3D pipeline — modelling, sculpting, rigging, animation, simulation, rendering, and video editing — in a single free application, which has made it a serious alternative to expensive commercial 3D suites. It's used for everything from architectural visualisation and product renders to short films and game assets, and is increasingly used for spatial and design communication outside traditional VFX studios.

What you can do with it

Pro Tip

Learn keyboard shortcuts before anything else — Blender's workflow is built around them, and mousing through menus will make everything feel ten times slower than it needs to.
