Skill Profile

Post-Production

Technical / Creative

"Editing, mixing, and finishing recorded audio or video after the shoot — cutting takes together, balancing levels, adding sound design and colour — and delivering a master that meets the broadcaster's or platform's technical spec."

YOUR SKILLS

Problems This Skill Solves

  • A recorded film has unusable production sound — post-production rebuilds the audio world through ADR, sound design, and mixing
  • A podcast series must deliver to Spotify's loudness specification — post-production mastering ensures compliance
  • A broadcaster's tech specs require specific deliverable formats — post-production pipelines convert and quality-check everything before delivery

Myths vs Truths
Myth

"Post-production is where problems from production get fixed."

Truth

Post-production can fix some problems, but it cannot fix everything. Properly shot and recorded material always produces a better outcome than trying to fix inadequate production in post.

Myth

"Post-production is mainly editorial — the director's vision is established in the shoot, and post is where it is technically realised."

Truth

Post-production is a second creative phase, not a technical implementation of decisions already made. Edit structure, pacing, music selection, sound design character, colour grade, and VFX approach profoundly affect how a piece feels and what it communicates — and many of these decisions cannot be made until the material from the shoot is assembled and evaluated.

Research & Outlook

Streaming platforms and shortform content are expanding post-production demand significantly.
